Submitting your music to a music media outlet is like taking the perfect photo (yeah, like the one you just saw with the airplane: it’s all about perfect timing). Now that I’m launching a monthly magazine, I wanted to explain to my wonderful artists what this change means for submissions.
Previously, it was possible to send music to me on Wednesday if your song was released on Friday. In 2 days, I had time to write my article and publish it. However, as you can imagine, a magazine doesn’t come together in just 2 days, especially when it’s 80 pages long! Therefore, I need a longer lead time. Because I may get back to you to clarify something or ask for additional pictures.
Niko's Music Magazine will be published on the 5th of each month. My song selection period runs from the 20th to the 20th of each month, slightly offset. For example, if you want your song to get an article in ISSUE 02, which comes out on December 5th, you’ll need to send it to me before November 20th. And so on.
So, if you know the release date of your song several weeks in advance, bingo! Send it to me as soon as you can, so that it’s always a "recent" release for my readers.
Why do I give myself such a buffer? Actually, it’s more of a safety margin. I’m someone who thinks long-term. As I mentioned, I truly believe that one day we will have enough subscribers to create a printed version of this magazine, so you can hold it in your hands! But in that case, I’ll need some extra time to send the layout to the printer, receive the copies, and ship them out to you worldwide so that you have them by the 5th of the month. Simple? Yes, even child’s play! But you had to think of it!
