For those who do not yet know Rebecca Sichon, you might be surprised by the diversity of musical universes that this artist can offer. And for those who already know her, they will be surprised to discover that her universe is bigger than they thought.

Because Rebecca's latest releases are more R'n'B oriented, even with rap parts. Her new single, "Innocence", out today is a much more emotional song, inspired by her move to Vancouver last year:

"I was inspired, but I was also swimming in the deep end of my expectations, overwhelmed by the weight of my goals and the pressure I put on myself to achieve them."

The young singer indeed wanted to transcribe the devastating effect that the barriers that we put on ourselves can have.

"These emotions, though motivating at times, have a negative effect on me, leaving me feeling anxious and inadequate. Writing this song was powerful; it taught me a lot about myself and my insecurities."

Whether it is because we set ourselves goals that are too high to achieve, or because we lack self-confidence, we are in a perpetual struggle with ourselves, and we often lose control. The reason is, however, simple. We are not kind enough to ourselves.

By setting reasonable goals and being less critical of ourselves, only the best can happen to us.

Carried by a voice out of the ordinary for her young age (Rebecca is only 19 years old), "Innocence" also draws an interesting parallel between adolescence and adulthood. A rather difficult period, which we all went through, and where we often wonder who we are.

The writing is very mature and the young artist seduced us with her vocal mastery. The melody, very catchy, stays in your mind for hours and triggers a rather surprisingly addictive feeling.

What at first seems to be a simple piano-voice ballad becomes an emotional bomb, which delivers chills at every second on its final part.

Me too. Before writing articles about other people's talents, I wrote over 300 songs, and I started at the age of 19. At the same age as Rebecca. And to be totally honest, I wish I could write so well at that time!

Rebecca is already one step ahead, and her kindness and ease in communicating with others and conveying emotions through music are absolutely stupendous. If her name doesn't ring a bell, write it down somewhere. Because you could see it again soon everywhere.

Lyrics

I built circles just to watch my mind go round

Flooded in an innocence

But won’t make a sound

I watch my time get spun around my neck

Holdin’ on so goddamn strong

I can’t forget

Oh I can forget

I wonder why I waste my time

Tryna hold down all control

Nothing to break

Nothing to fake

Nothing to take, I’ll just let it go

Can’t keep hoping for a shorter road

When I don’t know where to go

How can I see

How can I lead

How do I feel when I let it go

I find myself trustin’ stars more than my heart

Cause life ain’t no game I've been playing

Baby it’s my work of art

Wanna be different

A pop star for instance

Take my emotions and I live within them

Yet my fears, build over the years

Why can’t they just fade away

Oh fade away

Oh I wonder why I waste my time

Tryna hold down all control

Nothing to break

Nothing to fake

Nothing to take, I’ll just let it go

Can’t keep hoping for a shorter road

When I don’t know where to go

How can I see

How can I lead

How do I feel when I let it go

Flooded in an innocence but won’t make a sound

Oh I wonder why I waste my time

Tryna hold down all control

Nothing to break

Nothing to fake

Nothing to take, I’ll just let it go

Can’t keep hoping for a shorter road

When I don’t know where to go

How can I see

How can I lead

How do I feel when I let it go

Can’t keep hoping for a shorter road

When I don’t know where to go

How can I see

How can I lead

How do I feel when I let it go
