What surprised me in the first few seconds of "Blue Birthday" was Sven Ross' crystal-clear voice. A unique, warm and comforting voice. We immediately feel confident, as if we were listening to a good friend singing a song to us near a campfire.
The Amsterdam-based artist told us that "it's a song I wrote at the end of my 22nd birthday, after waiting in vain for getting a call from my ex".
As if to close a chapter of his life, the artist wanted to move on by writing this song, which is already, at first glance, the most intimate of his upcoming EP.
Sven Ross' career is quite atypical, and he was not intended for songwriting at the start: "Initially I was on the way to become a primary education teacher, but I decided to quit my study and jump into the London songwriting scene to develop my craft."
Life is made up of decisions and personal choices that will have consequences for the next few months, if not years. And I am completely convinced that Sven made the right choice.
His music bears the traces of his career and reveals a sincerity and authenticity rarely seen in indie music.
"Blue Birthday" is a simple, mostly acoustic song that didn't need any artifice to be a masterpiece. During the last minute, a discreet piano appears and plunges us into a warm atmosphere that we all need at the moment. A moment of delicacy, out of time, which feels good. It's a crush.

Lyrics
It's been a blue birthday
It might seem weird to say
But I've been waiting for your call all day
Of every door once open
The last one shut today
Will I ever talk to you again?
In a room full of memories untouched
With silence you kick up the dust
I remember
I remembered your voice
It was sweet like summer
But I can't recall the sound
And I hate it
Cause I used to love it
It's been a blue birthday
I wish we could be friends
Never thought this would be how we end
I did fine leaving memories untouched
But with silence you kick up the dust
I remember
I remembered your voice
It was soft like summer
But you won't talk to me today
And I hate it
Cause I used to love it
You turn 20 on the 7th of July
Maybe you'll tell me
You found your lover of your life
I won't mind
I just hope you'll pick up the phone
I remember
I remembered your voice
It was safe like summer
But I can't recall the sound
Faded away
On this Blue Birthday
