Our thoughts

We first introduced Children of Indigo back in September 2021 with their track “After All”. The Canadian trio is back on Indie Music Center today with a new single called “Sailor”, released via our good friends at Alexrainbirdrecords.

If you’re feeling stuck, tired of the same routine, craving wide open skies and the sound of nothing, “Sailor” is probably what you need right now. This is the kind of song that grabs your imagination by the hand and says, “let’s get out of here”.

The vocals are smooth and sincere, the harmonies gentle and warm. There’s a soft folk vibe, carried by a quiet banjo and a discreet electric guitar, both living together peacefully in a cosy little sound bubble. It’s the kind of track that reminds you that isolation is not always the answer, and that sometimes the right song can feel like company.

Beautifully produced, this indie folk ballad will fit your next road trip, your solo evenings, or that sunset you’re trying to catch before it disappears. Just make sure the volume is high enough to catch those enchanting vocals, and low enough to still hear the birds singing.

Children of Indigo's take on "Sailor"

At one time or another, we have all felt lost and overwhelmed in life. Feeling like we haven't accomplished enough or simply aren't enough. Sailor is about letting go of this feeling and having faith that ''this too shall pass''.

A bit more about Children of Indigo

Children of Indigo are an indie-folk trio from Ottawa, Canada, made up of Natasha Pedersen, Mitchell Jackson and David Campbell. They met at university in 2015, started playing together just for fun, and quickly realised they had something special.

A few open mics later, the first songs came to life, and they’ve been writing and producing as a team ever since. From small local shows to a slot at Ottawa Bluesfest in 2019, they’ve come a long way.

With over 4 million streams online, they’ve clearly found their audience: one that connects with their honest, heartfelt songwriting. Their sound is built around acoustic instruments, rich harmonies, and Natasha’s voice, soft and warm, somewhere between comfort and escape. They write about the things that matter: the people we love, the places we miss, the things we learn, and everything that ties us together.

Lyrics

I’ve been late for life, I’ve been late for living
I’ve bottled it up inside too long
I needed a compromise, cause all that I've been given
Has led me around and ‘round in circles

If I was a sailor, the winds would be my saviour
From the waves that pull me under
Been running through my thoughts as if I was dreaming
Thinking that I am lost, I am lost

I can barely breathe, I can barely shout
I'm gonna let it out, gonna let it out
I can barely see what's inside of me
I'm gonna let it be, gonna let it be

Living so many ways, looking for the answer
Searching all my days, all my days
Leaving solid ground, I will always get there
Knowing that I am found, I am found

I can barely breathe, I can barely shout
I'm gonna let it out, gonna let it out
I can barely see what's inside of me
I'm gonna let it be, gonna let it be

Tether to me, I'll tether to you
Wind on the sea, I follow you
Tether to me, I'll tether to you
Wind on the sea, I follow you
